KIDZ KARTING KLUB RETURNS BETTER THAN EVER

Series 2 of Kidz Karting Klub started again on the 2nd of May. We have 10 kids this season and they are set to have a great amount of fun and learn many valuable skills.
We started the season again with Denise and Aaron teaching the children about safety equipment and procedures. The Juniors enjoyed the inclusion of some games to help them learn about the flags. They were shaking and dancing along to the different flags and learning their accelerator and brake foot. The seniors also spent the first part of their night warming up and learning the flags.
Out on the track the Kidz Karting Klub werre strapped into their karts and sent out for a training run. They followed the flags around the track trying their hardest not to hit any of the tyres that make up the track, and to stay behind the person in front of them. The idea of this was to teach the kidz to drive slowly before they drive fast as it is much easier to stop a slow kart than a fast one! The juniors were very good at driving slowly and following the flags, however a few of the seniors were so excited about being behind a wheel they got a little too fast.
This reaction by the teenagers is one of the main reason kidz karting klub came about. We hope to get as many kids as possible behind the wheel of our go karts so we can teach them to be safe and responsible drivers, before they get behind the wheel of a much larger, highly dangerous motor vehicle.
As the night went on the kids were allowed to drive their karts faster and they learned to give way to other karts and navigate a crash scene. This was taught by setting up a give way zone and a small crash sight. The flag marshalls directed them around the crash sight with flags and also the use of lights, then they were marshalled into the give way area (marked by the witches hats) so another kart could go past them. Then they were to look over their shoulder, to merge back onto the track, when it was safe. Both the juniors and the seniors were able to do this successfully.
Throughout the night the kids were quizzed on many things from flags, to their favorite race car drivers ( Craig Lowndes and Webber the most popular) to what their favorite thing was – with one child commenting “my mum and dad”. Safety was the main focus of the night and Aaron had brought in his kart racing gear to show the children what they may need to get if they go further in go kart racing and buy their own kart. There were many questions and a lot of information was given by Aaron about hat the gear was made of, how he wore it and what it protected. The children were very surprised at the costs involved in motor sport at a higher level, but pleased to hear that you can also earn a lot as a race car driver.
By the time the kids came to their race it seemed they had a pretty good handle on using the brake and accelerator and also following the flags. We had a few thrills out on the track with the seniors showing off their skills and controlling the karts very well. Some of the juniors need to work on their braking, especially one who flew into pit lane, but out on they track they all showed they have some really good skills.
This weeks race winners were James in the seniors and Matthew in the juniors.
Points leaders are Kurt Hill in the Seniors on 21 points and Zaidyn and Matthew in the Juniors on 30 points

Fastlane Karting is ready to bring you Series 2 of Kidz Karting Klub.

Are your kids into go kart racing? Do they love being at the track or even watching the professionals on TV? Are they aged between 8 and 16 and sick of the usual sports on offer? Well then, Kidz KArting Klub starts again on the

2nd of May and we would love you to bring your kids along.

$35 a week (per child) For this they get involved in training exercises, on and off track games, trivia, winning prizes and of course RACING.

Juniors(8-12yrs) will start at 5pm

Seniors12-16yrs) will start at 7pm.

This series we have got some great new supporters that have donated to our prize pool.

Blocker and the boys from “The Game Plan” visit the track

Fastlane Karting recently hosted the Blocker and the boys from “The Game Plan” on Channel 10. This was for their new segment “Beat Blocker” where the boys set weekly challenges. This week was the karting challenge. Check it out…..hilarious!!!!

Toss the Boss on Anzac Day!

YES! We are open from 1pm to 6pm on Anzac Day (Wednesday April 25).

Anzac Day is a time for rememberance and reflection on our Diggers who fought for our great country. A time honoured tradition that has been passed down over the years has been the game of 2 up.

Only on Anzac Day at Fastlane Karting we will be playing a “Toss the Boss” competition with every person that purchases a track pass! Call Heads or Tails to win Mates Rates & Free Stuff! Awesome Achievers!

The night started off with a lot of excitement amongst the kids as they realised that most of them were still in the running to take out the series if they could just WIN that final race. Fortunately, tonight was all about racing and we set out the night with a qualifier, a race heat and then a finals race. The music was pumping, the excitement was rising and lots of family and friends had come to watch the kids rev up for their first race of the night. Our fearless leader couldnt keep himself away and came to meet allthe families that had joined up and was so pleased with such as great turn out,.

Here at Fastlane we are all so proud of how many families have taken the oppertunity to let their children learn the value of being able to control a vehicle when they are young , before they hit the real roads. They have learnt skills of handling, safety, following different directions, racing lines, scanning of surroundings, multitasking and most importantly how to give themself the best chance to WIN!

Well done to all the lucky prize winners, hope you enjoy them.

Throughout the night we all enjoyed a BBQ, cooked by Chris – our kart mechanic, and got to know each other better. I took thisoppertunity to let the parents know we will back on MAY 2nd next term, and they are all more than welcome to continue in the klub. As we watched the kidz zipping around the track it was obvious the parents were having just as much fun as the kids ! After cake (so kindly donated by one father) and more fun and prizes it was down to the FINAL RACE…and the anoouncement of the winners,

We presented each member of the Klub with a certificate for successfully completing Series One of Kidz Karting klub…With the tension rising and me taking just that little bit too long to tally the scores it was time to announce the winner. Who was going to get their name on the HUGE Kidz Karting Klub plaque.

Craig Lowndes & Kayne from ABC3 visit the track

Last week Craig Lowndes visited the track to shoot a special episode of Studio 3 with Kayne from ABC3. Craig being the top bloke that he is gave up his time to share a few stories with Kayne about Motor Racing and how he got into V8 Supercars. Craig talked about how he started out racing in Go Karts at a track similar to ours. He also mentioned that whilst it is great to be at the top of the Motor Sport now, setting goals for yourself and working with your team mates is essential for success!

After Craig and Kayne had a chat and laugh, we finally got the chance to get Craig and Kayne in our RIMO Evo IV Go Karts. Craig took to it like a duck to water however couldnt anticipate that Kayne would put him into the wall!!! Amateurs!

Craig was a great sport signing our Winners Podium and getting photos with the staff.

SLIPPERY WHEN WET!

Well what a FUN night we had for our first Kidz Karting Klub in the wet. Seems some were scared away by the rain but we had a good turn out with 13 kids turning up still. By the end of the night, the kids were drenched we were drenched and the karts were doing some great controlled sliding> To start the night Denise led the kids through lessons on the white board on how to get around a corner in the wet. We were sure to emphasise that slamming on the brakes WILL make you slide and WILL hurt!

Seems everyone learnt alot and by race time the kids were showing great control and were rarely spinning out. Only 1 person all night was removed (3 retrievals and your off rule) so thats pretty good odds I think. When looking back over the race results most kids were doing prettty close to their dry time.

Our winners for the week were

Zaidyn Melrose in the Junior Series for getting a score of 18 or more every week

and

in the Seniors group we had

Jonathan-ray Benge for always getting a good points score

and also

Jeremy Reichert for getting a 36.135secs time in last weeks race.

Kidz Karting Klub – Week 3

Navigating the start of the obstacle course

Its been an exciting week at Fastlane Karting with Craig Lowndes filming an ABC3 TV show at the track on Wednesday morning. He was talking all about winning and losing and who better to talk about it than one of our most successful motorsport champions. Julie took many oppertunities to chat to Craig about the Kidz Karting Klub, and we hope in the future that he may visit us again. We were lucky enough to have Craig sign some stickers for the two winners of last weeks Kidz Karting Klub. They were Matthew Larmour from the Juniors and Damien Xuereb from the Seniors.

Anyway, we started the night by revising the past two weeks and what had been learnt so far. Denise ran them through flags, racing lines and the importance of following directions out on the track. By the answers that were being offered to the quiz questions these kids are certainly learning their stuff, but more work is needed with understanding race lines, so this will be looked at next week.

Out on the track we put the Juniors and Seniors group through an obstacle course to practise some tighter handling. The idea was to get around the track safely and consistently rather than at a fast speed. They were to concentrate on keeping all four wheels on the ground, instead of sliding out.

After doing well at the obstacle course we got the kids back together to discuss how we will start to introduce a race format. So far we have only based the winner each week on their fastest lap time, but this week we will have them racing for a position for the last race. We wanted them to do the obstacle course at fast speed for a few laps then continue without obstacles to get their position time.

This seemed the perfect time to start talking about good sportsmanship. Julie talked to the kids about how Craig Lowndes had been at the track that morning talking about winning and losing. The children had some great ideas on what to do when you win – “cheering, shake hands with the loser and being confident but not cocky” and suggested when we lose that we should “cheer up, congratulate winner and figure out why.” They are all brilliant answers and the parents and staff were all very proud to hear this.

Out on the track for the last run of the night, the kids all put the karts around the track much better than the first week. The times are improving and they were certainly ready to start with racing. We have divided the Seniors into A and B groups now and this has seemed to help some with their times too.

Cant wait till next week when we get out and walk the track!
